Στὴ Μονή μας, ἡ προκαταρκτικὴ θεμελίωση τοῦ νέου Ναοῦ τοῦ Ἁγίου Σωφρονίου ἀνάγεται πολλὰ χρόνια πρὶν καὶ δὲν εἶναι ἄλλη ἀπὸ τὴν τέλεια παράδοση τοῦ ὁσίου Γέροντος στὸ θέλημα τοῦ Θεοῦ, ποὺ τὸν ὁδήγησε σὲ αὐτὸν τὸν μακρινὸ τόπο.
Ὅπως ἡ ἀρχὴ τῆς ζωῆς ἑνὸς νεογέννητου βρέφους ἐκδηλώνεται μὲ κλαυθμό, ἔτσι καὶ ἡ ἀρχὴ τῆς ζωῆς τῆς Μονῆς μας θεμελιώθηκε ἀπὸ τὸν ὅσιο Σωφρόνιο «…ἐν δάκρυσι πολλοῖς, καὶ ἐκ βάθους στεναγμοῖς, καὶ αἵματι καὶ ἱδρῶτι». Ὁ Γέροντας, μὲ μαρτυρικὴ αὐταπάρνηση, παρέμεινε ἀπόλυτα πιστὸς στὸ θέλημα τοῦ Θεοῦ, καὶ στὸ τέλος κατέθεσε στὴ Μονή του καὶ τὸ σεπτὸ σκήνωμά του, ὡς ἁγία ἀπαρχὴ ποὺ «ὅλον τὸ φύραμα ζυμοῖ»(Α’ Κορ. 5, 6· Γαλ. 5, 9).
Ὁ θησαυρὸς τῆς εὐλογίας τοῦ Θεοῦ στὸν καινούργιο Ναὸ τῆς Μονῆς μᾶς ἐνθαρρύνει νὰ ἀκολουθήσουμε τὴν ὁδὸ τῶν Ἁγίων μας. Ταυτόχρονα ὅμως ἀποτελεῖ φοβερὴ εὐθύνη καὶ προειδοποίηση νὰ ἐπαγρυπνοῦμε, ὥστε νὰ μὴν «ψυγῇ ἡ ἀγάπη»(Ματθ. 24, 12) στὶς καρδιές μας καὶ χάσουμε αὐτὸν τὸν θησαυρό, ἐφόσον ἡ εὐλογία τοῦ Θεοῦ μένει ἐκεῖ, ὅπου μὲ εὐγνωμοσύνη τὴ δέχονται.

I have received your book “THE HOUSE OF THE FATHER” , (in Greek “Ο ΟΙΚΟΣ ΤΟΥ ΠΑΤΡΟΣ”) and I am writing to you to express my great joy and enthusiasm as soon as I looked through it.
In the beginning, I would like to tell you that I have been an expert in the restoration of Byzantine monuments, as an engineer and architect (PhD in Byzantine architecture, Paris I Pantheon Sorbonne University) and my professional activity is directly related to Byzantine and modern Church Building. I was also a student of Leonide Ouspensky in icon painting when I was a post-graduate student in Paris in 1983 – 1989.
I have already read three books written by nun Gabrielia on the art of Saint Sophrony, and I was really excited because very little was known about his art, especially during his early life.
As far as the book “THE HOUSE OF THE FATHER” is concerned, I was really impressed by this wonderful work, both on the architecture and the quality of its iconography. I assume that the paintings of the walls bear the stamp of Sister Gabriela, who was also a student of Saint Sophrony.
I dare say, with modesty, that I have also designed modern churches based on the tradition of Byzantine architecture.
I have read with great interest the unfolding of the Saint’s thoughts regarding the design of the new round church dedicated, today, to Saint Sophrony. I am impressed by the choice of the type of Rotunda, by the design of the Proskomidi behind the Holy Altar, by the two corridors in the Sanctuary, by the contracted narthex and by many other modern elements of this great work of your Monastery.
This note of mine is of course also addressed to Sister Gabrielia, whom I do not know. I do not remember if she were in your Monastery at that time (in 1983), when I visited it.
Maybe I would have the chance in the future to admire on the spot the round Chapel as well as the other works of your Monastery, which undoubtedly bear the stamp of Saint Sophrony, the founder and Abbot.

Another wonderful work from the Essex brotherhood that now adorns my library. I recently decided to place another order from the monastery’s publications because I was confident in the quality and elegance that governs the brotherhood. The album House of the Father takes us on a journey to the newly built church of Saint Sophrony with wonderful photographs and texts from its interior and exterior. The publication ultimately exceeded my expectations with the amazing quality of the book’s material and the gradual depiction of all stages of the church, from the initial conception of the idea to construction and completion. Its interior with amazing frescoes and hagiographies. Also, finally, not to forget about its very good and safe packaging. The brotherhood always ensures proper packaging and information about the shipment at all stages until the destination.
