Most of A. Sophrony’s works were published in the first volume of the Catalogue RaisonnĂ©. However, the icons he painted for commissions as well as icons painted in collaboration with assistants were only partly included. The present volume fills this gap.4 Some icons which were included in the first volume have been repeated here and some drawings from the first volume have been printed next to the finished works for study purposes. A few new drawings relating to one work in particular were found and added.
4. There may be more icons that could come to light with time. The iconographic archives of the Monastery were only kept systematically from 1983 onwards.
Sister Gabriela studied iconography on the recommendation of St Sophrony before joining the monastery. She later assisted him in several artistic projects during the last years of his life. Her books are about what she learned while working with him on icons, church murals, and mosaics.
