Selon le saint Starets Sophrony, la douloureuse prière pour le monde est, au sens littéral, un « enfer de l’amour », qui élève l’homme à une « prêtrise royale » et à une parfaite imitation du Christ, le pasteur souverain. Par la prière hypostatique, l’homme devient universel et, tel un « autre Adam » à l’image du Nouvel Adam, il officie le salut de toute l’humanité en priant pour le monde entier, pour les ennemis et les amis, pour ceux qui sont loin et pour ceux qui sont proches.
La vivante présence de Dieu dissout peu à peu les « tuniques de peau » et accorde une nouvelle naissance dans le Royaume inébranlable des esprits hypostatiques « amenés à la perfection ». Alors, les horizons de la vie personnelle s’élargissent à l’infini et le cercle étroit des limites individuelles est brisé. Dans son coeur profond, l’homme de foi découvre que son existence est inséparablement liée à celle de toute l’humanité, et il se tourne vers Dieu dans une prière fervente pour le salut du monde entier.
