When we take part in the feasts, we do not travel conceptually through time, but we truly partake of eternity while still being in a specific place and time. In every feast of the Church, we are given the power by the grace of the Spirit to meet Christ already in this present life and to experience simultaneously the past, present, and future. In this way, the concept of time takes on a new dimension. It could be described as the eternal present, a time overshadowed by eternity, which is a gift of the Church to her light-bearing children.

The book The Eternal ‘Today’ begins with the Incarnation of the Son of God and the divine work of the salvation of the world. It continues with the luminous feasts of holy Theophany and the Presentation of the Lord in the Temple, reaching the rich liturgical period of the devotionary Triodion. The uppermost crown of our journey is Easter, during which we become partakers of the grace of the saving Resurrection of Christ. At this point a new path of expectation and desire opens up to us, leading to the great and final feast of Pentecost. Our journey reaches its end with the Sunday of All Saints. When the Holy Spirit came to dwell in the Church the greatest fruit which was imparted were the Saints. The main work of the Church is to produce images of Christ. But who is Christ? He is the New Adam, Who came, suffered and ascended the Cross having only one thought and one desire: to save the whole world.

Today the Holy Gospel reminds us that without fasting and prayer we are not able to be delivered from the demonic pestilence of sin.

Our immaculate Church also tells us that the fruit of her crucified life are the Saints. A perfect example is Saint John of the Ladder, who teaches us that when we till our heart with the plough of the Cross and guard it with vigilance, we find the Paradise of God within us.

His teaching has a vision which is similar to a submarine, into which not a drop of water can enter. According to this teaching, guarding the mind and the heart from every alien thought or sinful image preserves the benefit of our struggle to attain salvation, which we undertake at all times, but more especially during this period of Holy Lent.

The great Apostle Paul encourages us to not be ‘ignorant of the devices of the enemy’ (2 Cor. 2:11), but with vigilance to hold our every thought captive ‘to the obedience of Christ’
(2 Cor. 10:5).

The Eternal “Today” It is a jewel of pure light . I touched this book and suddenly it opened at pages 148-149! It appeared “The Crucifixion”, a reproduction of a Mural from Hylands Refectory. The more you read this book, by turning page after page, you feel closer to Our Lord Jesus. It is a spiritual renewal in every page! The book is a combination of enlightening essays, wonderfull illustrations of Murals and icons and prayers. Thank you Father Zacharias for this spiritual gift given to the world!
